This vegan hot cocoa mix is one of the reasons I love switching from processed store bought foods to homemade versions. For your kids or yourself, it’s nice to know exactly what ingredients go into something, to choose those ingredients yourself, and to feel secure that your family isn’t eating anything unhealthy. Often, we fall back onto processed foods for convenience. This mix is one of those convenience foods we can make ourselves!
The mix is quick to make and easy to store. When you are ready for some tasty hot cocoa, just stir 2 tablespoons (per serving) of your mix into a saucepan of hot milk. Top your hot cocoa with vegan marshmallows, coconut whipped cream or dark chocolate shavings. Add a pinch of cinnamon and a pinch of cayenne pepper to each mug to make a delectable Mexican hot chocolate.
This recipe makes enough cocoa mix for 16 servings. A jar of cocoa mix makes a great Christmas or hostess gift, too! Just add a nice tag or bow, and you can even include a copy of the recipe.

- Place all of the ingredients into a food processor or high speed blender.
- Blend until the mix is a fine powder. (Remove the lid of your blender or food processor after the chocolate dust has settled.)
- Store in an airtight container for up to 1 month at room temperature or up to 2 months in the refrigerator.
- In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of plant based milk and 2 tablespoons of cocoa mix over medium heat. Once the cocoa has heated up, reduce heat to low, stirring to help the cocoa mix to dissolve and the bits of vegan chocolate chips are melted.
- Serve hot, topped with vegan marshmallows, coconut whipped cream, or dark chocolate shavings.
