This chocolate peanut butter smoothie veers so far from my normal fruit smoothies that it almost registers for me as a milk shake. But, I wanted to do something sweet and decadent for Halloween. We’re avoiding candy this year – totally – and giving ourselves treats in healthier ways.
This recipe uses frozen bananas, something we always have around. When we buy groceries, we get 10 to 12 bananas per week. We usually eat about half of those and the rest go into the freezer. Once they get a little too ripe, we slice them, wrap each banana individually in plastic wrap, then toss them all into a one-gallon freezer bag and into the freezer. Lisa uses them to blend with cold coffee to avoid drinking sugar every morning. It’s nice to always have them on hand, for a lot of reasons, along with other frozen fruits.
I like this recipe because it has NO ADDED SUGAR, and we buy peanut butter that has no salt or sugar added. The smoothie still feels like a guilty pleasure and satisfies my sweet tooth. We use all organic items, all the time, when at all possible. You might also enjoy this Vegan Pumpkin Pear Smoothie or ourĀ Pumpkin Spice Latte Vegan Milkshake. I found the chocolate peanut butter smoothie recipe at Juggling Real Food and Real Life, but I used chunky peanut butter and less ice.
Now go make this smoothie & enjoy!
